Our little princess is 1 month older -- she is now a bubbly and active 8-mth old baby :)

BB milestones
Since she started crawling, she is enjoying her newfound freedom and busy exploring IFC and our home. The caregivers "complained" laughingly that Yuan2 liked to crawl to the younger infants and shaked their bouncers and pulled their socks! Gosh, we forsee that she will become a bully in time to come *haha* Sometimes, she will do sweet things like crawling to a younger infant, put her hand over her shoulder and hug -- with their face side by side *ooohhh*

As her back gets stronger, she is now able to sit upright and unsupported. However, when she loses concentration, she will fall back or sideway... The first time she lost balance while sitting on the edge of bumpermat, she fell back and hit the back of her head on the hard tile -- TK couldn't rescue her in time. Luckily it was juz a scare and she was fine after crying it out. The second time, TK managed to pull her in time before she fell sideway *phew*

Juz 1 day before she turned 8mth, she achieved another milestone by standing up -- she pulled herself up by using the Vtech Walker *clap clap* Since then, she has been finding things to help her stand up -- be it chair, table, sofa, human leg etc. Guess babies like to repeatedly do the same thing -- till they progess to the next milestone :) Practice makes perfect!

BB @ Meal Times
Yuan2 tried porridge with pumpkin and spinach but she did not like it. Maybe the taste was more bland as compared to rice cereal. We decided to let her continue with rice cereal till 9mth -- will intro fish and chicken porridge to her then.


It is getting more difficult to feed her on the nursing pillow as she will flip and crawl in the mist of feeding -- make a big mess on herself and the pillow. This week, we start training her to sit in high chair during cereal time. The key is still feed fast and make sure the food is warm. So far, she is able to finish the whole bowl of cereal when mummy is feeding her :) But she will bully daddy -- blow bubbles along with the cereal flying out, turning left n right so that daddy cannot aim the spoon properly etc... Haiz, TK need to be more patient with Yuan2...

BB @ Xmas Parties

Ho Ho Ho, the happy holidays season is here! This is Yuan2's first Xmas -- we brought her to experience the festive atmosphere @ Orchard Rd :) Haha, she dozed off in the stroller and miss out on the Xmas lighting! We had 3 Xmas parties -- fun with many babies n gift exchanges...

IFC Xmas Party
On Xmas Eve, IFC held a Xmas Party for the babies. Each parent prepared a gift (<=$10) for gift exchange. The caregivers were dressed up as Santa Claus and the kiddo enjoyed the singing n dancing. Yuan2 was elated to be in the older infant play area and busy crawling & exploring the toys.

SMH May09 Babies Xmas Party

Next party after IFC was @ mummy angeline's place. Wow, the place was packed with mummies & babies! It was hilarious when we placed the babies on the bumper mat! Here's to recap some funny moments :-

1) chang xuan cried out loud when le xuan pulled her curly hair -- mummy poohwei had to remove the red korea headband...

2) vera cried n pushed yuan2 -- mummy cheesecake asked baby vera not to push... but yuan2 was sitting on vera's leg *ouch* sorry, baby vera! yuan2 was changing direction -- she will crawl, sit, turn side n continue crawl...

3) i gave yuan2 a box of clorets -- she enjoyed hearing the shake-shake sound... and this box was passed among the babies feb_mum, i think it was left at ur place...

4) chelsea's toy was passed among all the babies -- erhmm, yuan2 chew n drooled on it so much that i had to wash it! sorry, mummy ibite..

5) clumsy yuan2's daddy accidentally knocked shermin with his bum -- shermin fell back on the back of sofa but din cry.. sorry, mummy shers! 6) greg n chelsea had a crawling competition for baby biscuit -- chelsea won n greg cried (coz that's his baby biscuit)!

Xmas Lunch
We invited Ee Sze, hubby n Baby Qian Hui to our place on Xmas Day -- I cooked a simple Kimichi Miso Hotpot with Chestnut Kamameshi Rice :) When we placed Yuan2 and Qian Hui on the bumpermat, both girls were happily playing the toys. When Yuan2 saw Qian Hui playing happily with the Vtech Sit & Stand Walker, she crawled over to "disturb" -- ha, thot she dun like the toy! Maybe the toy becomes more "attractive" when there is "competition"! Both babies were tired soon after n took a nap while we parents got to enjoy tiramisu dessert in peace!

BB @ 7 month

Time really sped by -- our darling princess is 7 month old this Monday! Getting more active and changing diaper is becoming more challenging -- she will flip and reach out to grab the diaper cream n wet tissue box...

BB Milestones

Yuan2's latest sporting interest is doing "push up" -- in her attempt to crawl :) One morning, I burst out laughing at the sight of Yuan2 doing push up -- she "reversed" till the end of the cot and kept on pushing -- hands straight, lift up butt and push back *haha* When she got tired, she would flop face down on the mattress for a rest and then repeat over again!

For that 1 week, she was on "reverse gear" -- will find her stucked at one corner :) Next she progressed to curb the reverse gear and managed to stay put -- lift her butt higher and dive down on the mat :P She was not confident to lift her hands up -- for fear of losing balance. We try to help her to move forward by demo how to crawl -- practise moving her hands n legs. We entice her with her favourite toys -- sometimes, she will scramble or do the commando creep to move forward to reach her "target"!

Finally our efforts pays off! This week she is able to crawl forward -- it is such a joy when she crawls to my open arms :)

P.S. There is a saying in Teochew -- sit @ 7mth, crawl @ 8mth and walk @ 9mth. Seems like Yuan2 has skipped the milestone of sitting unsupported to crawling. Haha, she cannot wait to be mobile like other babies @ IFC!

BB's Fun Time with Daddy

When I feed Yuan2, will put her on the nursing pillow (so that angle is elevated) and entertain her with songs singing or story telling. If her attention is off, she will be wriggling ard n refuse to drink. One night, TK did the last milk feed while I was washing baby clothes. FYI, he doesn't sing or tell story. Strangely, I started to hear TK making aeroplane sound. When I went out to see, LOL! He raised the bottle high up and "fly" to Yuan2's mouth along with the aeroplane sound! New pattern from daddy and Yuan2 happily sucked a few mouth and waited for the next "landing" :) Hope Yuan2 dun expect mummy to make the aeroplane sound when I feed her!

TK has his way of playing with Yuan2. His new trick was to carry Yuan2 in Tazan style with MIM sling -- look at how Yuan2 was enjoying fun time with Daddy!

BB @ Meal Times

I am enjoying baby food making :) On weekends, I will make rice cereal for 1 week supply and veg/fruit puree for 1/2 week supply and freeze it baby cubes. Mid week, I will make veg/fruit puree for the next 1/2 week. So far, Yuan2 enjoyed all the puree that I made -- she had tried carrot, brocolli, sweet potato, potato, pumpkin and avocado :) Next will be porridge -- hope she will like the new taste n texture!

Usually, I am the one feeding Yuan2 her rice cereal + veg/fruit puree. The few times that TK tried feeding, Yuan2 would start crying after 1 spoonful and not finish the food :( Last weekend, TK finally managed to feed Yuan2 all the rice cereal -- his method was to feed fast so that Yuan2 dun hv time to cry *haha* Yeah, must have confident when feeding baby -- let them know who is the boss!

Yuan2 had her first taste of Baby Bites -- she tried to shove the whole biscuit into her mouth!

BB coughing

Last Friday, we brought Yuan2 to see PD again when her cough got worse after 2 weeks and her sleep and appetite were affected. To our horror, PD detected wheezing sound when she breathed (low panting) and put her on nebulizer for 20mins! So careless of us -- we didn't think much of her on-off cough! Should have bring her to see PD earlier! We were brought to a separate room for nebulization. At first, she was fascinated by the mask but began to wail after a while -- gosh, so heartpain to hear her cry but gotta continue to put the mask on. She dozed off soon after the mask was removed -- need to wait 20mins before seeing PD. Phew, her airways was clearer and she could sleep more comfortably. PD up the dosage from 1.5ml to 2ml for Ventolin to open up the airways. He warned that her condition may get worse for the coming 1 week. If dun develop to bronchitis, will take another 2 weeks to recover. He advised us to look after her at home then put at IFC and watched out for signs of lethargy, fever etc.

As TK was back in army for reservist, I took leave to look after her -- haha, re-lived the maternity days of baby care! My day revloved ard bath, feed, sleep and play. More tiring then working! As predicted by PD, her cough worsen on the 5th-7th -- each time she coughs, her whole face would turn red and cough till wanna vomit kind. Her appetite drops drastically. From her usual 200ml, she barely finishes 60ml and will push the bottle away. I need to warm the milk and coax her to drink later -- one feed can take 1 hour!

Thanks to many SMH May09 mummies who shared tips on how to soothe baby -- she coughs fewer times and still as active :) Hope she regains her appetite soon!

BB @ Party Time

It was a busy weekend and Yuan2 had lotsa fun at Swim Party and Ashlee's Birthday Party :)

We brought Yuan2 for a swim @ Hwa Xia Harbourfront -- after a very full feed of sweet potato and brocolli puree :) She enjoyed her swim -- despite other babies crying & fussing! We wanna let her have baby massage but she began to cry when the massage lady put her hands on her body -- guess she dun like strangers to touch her :( Gotta forgo the massage again... Met up with a few SMH May09 mummies & babies -- it was fun watching the babies creating "waves" in the tub! Yuan2 KO after the swim and only asked for milk after 7.5 hours from her last feed!

BB @ Ahslee's Birthday Party

Karen's baby, Ashlee, celebrated her 2nd birthday on Sunday -- Barney theme. Yuan2 was dressed up in red romper dress and put on her new hairband. TK bjorned her to the party and she was curiously looking ard. Karen specially packed a nice goody bag for Yuan2 -- she couldn't wait to open it! Yuan2 took a short nap on my lap (amist the party commotion) and woke up in time for the cake cutting. Ashlee was a real sweetie -- she came forward to play with Yuan2 and asked her to blow bubble :)

BB @ 6 month

Wow, time really flies! Our little princess was 6mth old last Friday :) She likes to smile and chuckle happily!

BB @ Meal Time

We started Yuan2 on solids 2 weeks ago. She is drinking milk as per normal(4x 200ml) with an additional feed of solids. She is enjoying the food that mummy made -- mummy is enjoying the food making process, too. So far, she has tried rice cereal, carrot, brocolli, apple & pear puree. At IFC, she made a mess and came back with orange carrot stains on her new clothes! To prevent her from dripping food on her clothes, I bought DEX bibs & long sleeve infant bib.

BB @ Sleep Time
Yuan2 will ask for her last milk feed at 8pm and zzz soon after. She likes to perform stunts in her sleep -- rotate and get stuck at one corner, flip onto her tummy and sleep face down!! I always have nightmare of SIDS -- will wake up to check on her 1-2 times during the nite.

Last Saturday, TK found her legs sticking out from the cot(the bumper was half length) and she was happily smiling away. Gosh, that can be so dangerous -- what if she breaks her legs!! We quickly changed it to a full length bumper but leave a little gap for wind to go in (Yuan2 dun sleep in air-con room). And our little princess knows how to push her legs against the side of the cot to move forward to grab toys *haha*

BB @ Swim Time

After her last immunisation jab (next will be @ 15mth), it is time to bring her to the pool @ our place for a swim. Aunty Audrey bought a Dora swim suit for Yuan2 from Texas, USA -- juz in time to wear it :) Mummy was very eager to let Yuan2 try the Doraemon Wave Rider. At the baby pool, Yuan2 was fascinated by kids playing with balls sprinting water -- reminded her of her hippo toy @ bath time :) TK let her test water by dipping her feets in water on the side of the pool -- she was happily steping away. When we put her in the Doraemon float, she sat like a princess :) We took turns to "speed" her ard in the pool and she chuckled happily. After 10min in the water, she sneezed -- gan cheong daddy n mummy quickly took her out of the water and wrapped her in towel. After a warm bath, she KO till dinner time :) Will bring her to the pool more often!

In 2 weeks time, Yuan2 will be 6 month old! Lately, she will look at us curiously and mimick our mouth movement like chewing food -- and she drools loads! Time to start her on solid food -- I am very excited to make baby food for her and busy collecting recipes from internet.

1) Food Blender

My friend San2 recommended us to get an easy-to-clean food blender, Magic Bullet, to make baby food. We finally got it @ Raffles City's Robinson -- used $100 voucher and paid cash $29 :)

2) Food storage

I bought Baby Cubes from bulk purchase with SMH May09 mummies. This is for easy storage of the blended food in small portion.

3) Bowl & Spoon

KKH gave us a 5-piece set when we signed up for the prenatal class -- consists of bowl, plate, cup, spoon & fork. I also bought a Pigeon bowl & spoon set -- comes with a part for mashing soft food.

Last weekend, I finally had time to make rice cereal for Yuan2. I mixed half cup of cooked rice with EBM 20ml and blended it. Viola, 10sec later, a nice creamy rice cereal was done! I portioned 2 tablespoons of rice cereal into each Baby Cubes (made 4 portions) and stored in the freezer. To serve, defrost 1 Baby Cube and mix in warm EBM 20ml.

Note : For cooked rice, do not leave it for more than 1 hours as bacteria will grow on them. I had to throw away my first try as I leaved it to cool for too long. This time, I blended it right away and store in freezer immediately.

We put Yuan2 on the baby chair and put on a cute moo-moo-cow bib -- haha, she was fascinated with the bib around her neck and tried pulling & put in her mouth :) TK was on standby to video Yuan2's first spoonful of rice cereal. When Yuan2 tasted the rice cereal, she tried to lick n swallow but the cereal dripped out together with her saliva *faint* I had to use the spoon to scoop and put it back in her mouth. Her interest in this new food only lasted for 3min and she started to wriggle on the baby chair! Haha, think she was getting impatient with the slow progress -- normally, she finished 200ml of milk in 5mins. No choice, I poured the rice cereal in a bottle and added EBM 40ml -- she happily drank it. Oh, I had to punch a bigger hole on the teat -- she got frustrated when the rice grain got stuck at the teat initally. She cried for more and I top up with FM 120ml.

I was worried that she would be constipated after starting solids like some babies. We were out the whole day and she didn't poo. Luckily, she poo-ed big time after her 1st feed the next morning -- still watery mustard yellow. Yeah, that means she digested the rice cereal well :)

Now, I am gonna make more baby food using fruits & vegetables.

BB @ Fun Times

Life is getting more fun -- Yuan2 is very active and likes to explore new things. To keep her entertain n have safe fun, we bought a Parklon bumper map and rented a exersuacer.

BB @ Peek-a-boo

Met up with Mag & bb @ Peek-a-boo at Kallang Leisure Park on 29-10-2009. Yuan2 had a fun time playing with the toys n watching other kids playing :) Co-incidentally, both babies were wearing the same Mary Jane socks!
